Landslides in Uttarakhand: Several Pilgrims Stranded

Numbers of tourists continued to stay trapped in Uttarakhand state as the heavy rains has lashed out the hill state. The Yatra of Char Dham Yatra has been pendant after seeing the heavy rain showers, which have directed to gush in the main rivers over the entire state. Mandakini and Alaknanda have crossed danger marks.

Several landslides at various locations have also jammed a lot of main routes in Uttarakhand. Where Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway is strongly affected, the road linking Kedarnath and Gaurikund is blocked due to heavy downpour and landslides. A bridge over the river Saraswati near Kalimath is washed away, which have forced 164 devotees to return from Kedarnath, while several devotees are taken refuge in a government camp. This bridge washed away, was built last year when another bridge on the same river was washed away in the last year’s flash floods.

According to the recent reports, about 300 pilgrims are reported to be trapped in the nearer are of Joshimath. Along with them, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev is also trapped at a location of Gangotri. With him, there are 400 students, who are trapped after the road to Uttarkashi caved in at many places.
